If you purchased a 1/4″ hex impact driver, make sure to add some impact driver bits to your collection too.
An impact driver isn’t always in impact mode. There is a level of resistance before the impact mode engages. Non-impact rated bits can handle light duty work where there isn’t enough resistance for the impact mode to start, but when the impact mode does eventually kick in, the pounding effect is too much for a standard bits material strength to handle.
If in a retail package, the bits should be clearly marked on the package as impact rated. A local tool house may carry a larger assortment of higher grade professional contractor grade bits than what large chain stores stock. Just ask for help as the bits may be locked away in unmarked bulk cases.
