Review: GatorHyde and Mean Green Garden Hoses

Our review of the GatorHyde and Mean Green garden hoses is based purely on long term personal use and experience. This isn’t a case where a high-tech facility was available to perform pull tests on the fitting connections, nor repeated various tests to analyze durability.

However, the hoses are used on a regular basis to wash autos, water for gardening, and clean outdoor areas of a home like sidewalks and siding. All the common tasks other homeowners may be looking for in a water hose to accomplish without issue.

Long Term GatorHyde and Mean Green Hose Experience…

The overall structural integrity of the hoses has been flawless during our years of ownership and both hoses are still very flexible. No hardening of the hose material. But like anything there are some negative comments to add.

  • Our Gatorhyde hose – in the brown color – is left outside most of the year and has suffered discoloration over time in areas exposed to more direct sunlight. Color is more more of a brownish green now.
  • So many hoses are labeled as kink resistant, but both the Gatorhyde and Mean Green hoses we have twist and kink to some degree. However, the hoses have never shown any signs of permanent kinking and bounce back to perfect shape once the hose is straightened out.
