All lamps should be able to be examined without the need for assistance. Although having another set of eyes walking around the car while lights are being activated can be a great help; especially brake lights.
TIP: Brake lights can be inspected at night while having your vehicle backed up near a wall of a building and using your mirrors to see if they are lighting when the brake pedal is depressed.
Note: Bulbs can be a DIY project, but bulb and/or lamp replacement also vary greatly between car makes and models. Knowing and covering all applications is not realistic for this article. Please consult the proper expertise for assistance, if needed.
